Course Overview

This course provides an in-depth look at the latest techniques in surgical treatment for periodontal defects. It focuses on understanding periodontal anatomy and diagnosing periodontal disease.

Participants will learn about established techniques for root coverage, such as the coronally advanced flap supported by either an autologous soft tissue graft or a heterologous matrix. These techniques are continuously evolving with the introduction of new materials and treatment strategies.

Participants will gain the necessary knowledge and skills to confidently perform various types of periodontal surgeries for simple and moderately difficult cases, with the aim to give participants the latest insights into periodontology.

Topics covered in the course:

  • Principles of periodontal diagnosis - probing and assessment of clinical and prognostic parameters of periodontal disease, radiographic examination, and pathogenesis of bone defects
  • Classification of periodontal disease
  • Subgingival instrumentation in surgical therapy (manual and ultrasonic) and nonsurgical therapy
  • Scaling and root planing procedures
  • The role of the dental hygienist in the dental practice
  • Differential goals of non-surgical etiological therapy depending on the treatment plan
  • Differential goals of mucogingival surgery
  • Etiology and indications for the treatment of gingival recessions
  • Predetermination of root coverage and prognosis
  • Combined restorative-periodontal treatment for aesthetic outcome
  • Surgical treatment of a single recession
  • Split thickness surgical papilla
  • Treatment of exposed root surface
  • Techniques for harvesting connective tissue grafts
  • Coronally advanced flap with connective tissue graft (CAF + CTG)
  • Treatment of lower incisor recessions with V-CAF and Tunnel Technique
  • Treatment of isolated recessions in the lower arch
  • Surgical treatment of multiple gingival recessions: treatment plan in mucogingival surgery
  • Coronally advanced flap for the treatment of multiple gingival recessions in the upper and lower arch
